Solar-estimate helped me feel confident going into negotiations with local solar companies. I ran my numbers three times with different roof orientations and it made sense every time. My only small gripe is the interface feels a little dated, but the information itself is solid. I ended up getting quotes from four companies through the site and two of them were genuinely competitive. Installed a 9.6 kW system last spring and it's performing right on target.

Really helpful for getting a ballpark on system size and cost without having to sit through a three-hour sales presentation first. The design tool on solar-estimate.org was intuitive enough that even my husband, who hates technology, could figure it out. The local price data for Colorado seemed reasonably accurate based on what we were quoted. Gave it four stars because I wish there were more contractor reviews integrated into the platform, but overall very useful.
I was skeptical of free solar tools online because most of them just harvest your contact info and sell it to aggressive salespeople. Solar-estimate felt different — more educational, less pushy. The design tool gave me useful output and the price estimates for central Florida were in the right ballpark. I did get a couple of follow-up calls from contractors in their network but they weren't overly pushy. Overall a solid starting point for anyone new to solar.
