I used solar-estimate.org before talking to any contractors and it completely changed how I approached the whole process. The design tool let me map out my roof, enter my monthly bill, and get realistic estimates from local providers. When I finally met with installers, I already knew what a fair price looked like. Saved me from getting ripped off by the first guy who quoted me $42,000 for a system I later got for $28,500. This site is genuinely useful.

Absolutely the best free resource I found when researching solar for my home. The online design tool is surprisingly accurate. I drew out my roof sections, added shading from a big oak tree on the south side, and it gave me a system size recommendation that matched almost exactly what two independent installers later suggested. The pricing database seems current too. Really glad I stumbled on this before signing anything.

Solar-estimate helped me feel confident going into negotiations with local solar companies. I ran my numbers three times with different roof orientations and it made sense every time. My only small gripe is the interface feels a little dated, but the information itself is solid. I ended up getting quotes from four companies through the site and two of them were genuinely competitive. Installed a 9.6 kW system last spring and it's performing right on target.

As someone who spent weeks confused by solar jargon and conflicting salesperson pitches, this site was a breath of fresh air. The information service section explains everything in plain language — payback periods, net metering, federal tax credits, all of it. I printed out their cost breakdown page and brought it to every consultation I had. Contractors seemed almost surprised I knew what I was talking about. Hired a great company and the install went perfectly.

Really helpful for getting a ballpark on system size and cost without having to sit through a three-hour sales presentation first. The design tool on solar-estimate.org was intuitive enough that even my husband, who hates technology, could figure it out. The local price data for Colorado seemed reasonably accurate based on what we were quoted. Gave it four stars because I wish there were more contractor reviews integrated into the platform, but overall very useful.

This website did exactly what it promises. I designed my home solar setup online in about twenty minutes, got a realistic price range for my area, and used that information to vet the three contractors I spoke with. One of them quoted me 35% above the estimate range and couldn't explain why. The other two were right in line. Ended up going with a local company and my system has been running great for eight months. Highly recommend starting here before talking to anyone.

I was skeptical of free solar tools online because most of them just harvest your contact info and sell it to aggressive salespeople. Solar-estimate felt different — more educational, less pushy. The design tool gave me useful output and the price estimates for central Florida were in the right ballpark. I did get a couple of follow-up calls from contractors in their network but they weren't overly pushy. Overall a solid starting point for anyone new to solar.

I filled out the whole design tool, entered all my information, and submitted my contact details to get connected with local solar contractors. Within 24 hours I had seven different companies calling and texting me. It was overwhelming and borderline harassing. Two of them called me four times in one day. I understand that's how these lead gen sites work but I wasn't prepared for it. The information on the site itself is decent but the lead selling aspect is really aggressive.
